Sketch Outing at Krohn Conservatory

Sketch in my 8x10 Moleskine

Amy Bogard, Vanessa Sorensen and I all went to Krohn Conservatory Friday May 16th to check out the butterfly exhibit and sketch. Check out there sketches at their blogs (their names are linjked.

It was a rainy day out so sketching in the rainforest was just perfect! There are a bunch of caged tropical birds in that area too so we could not resist drawing them.

A Night of Sketching at Modern Makers + The Cincinnati Ballet presents Dance/Draw

I went with my friend Amy to sketch last night at the Modern Makers + The Cincinnati Ballet presents Dance/Draw. We sketched performers from the Cincinnati Ballet.

We mostly did gestures but I did the top sketch when I got home after I looked at my photos.

It was a great event. Lots of wonderful music, drawing and dancing. People of all ages were there. It was cram packed with people!

Cherry Blossoms and Rising Sun

Cherry Blossoms in Spring Grove
I know I need to post more Italy sketches, but here is another little intermission. We FINALLY got the spring blossoms a month later than last year. I went with Amy and Linda to sketch them after last week's illustrator lunch.

I unfortunately missed the spectacular Ault Park this year.

This week, I had a library visit at Rising Sun, Indiana. What a lovely little town. The students were great and really engaged for 4th and 5th graders. Also, between assemblies, I got to explore the town a little and sketch, of course.

Tree of Life

The day started out stormy but was sunny and beautiful by the time I left. I really love the Tree of Life sculpture, although it should be called the Whomping Willow...

We also went by the Historical Society which had this amazing two-headed calf curiosity. It also had the coolest speedboats with GIANT Rat Fink sized engines.

Bat Fest Demo

Demo I did at Bat Fest on some awesome craft paper I got at Smartfish Studio on Main Street in OTR
Last Saturday I was at Bat Fest at the Cincinnati Museum Center. It was a wonderful time. I read Little Red Bat and did art demos.

A lot of people stopped by with questions and the Museum has an actual red bat! (Her name is Ginger.)

Brown bats in a cave
Anyway, I will be in Wooster, OH this Saturday for the Buckeye Book Fair. Hope to see you there!

Also, a photo a friend took of me signing the Possum book at Books by the Banks!

It is Year of the Dragon!

I have been really swamped and am tardy in posting. So, I doodled this today while waiting for my giant files to save. Happy Chinese New Year!

In case you are wondering, I was born in the year of the monkey.

Seasons Series: Spring Sketch

A couple months ago, I posted the finish of the first painting in a series for the seasons. This is the sketch for spring with a lot of cherry blossoms, a big horn lamb, bluebirds and a bunny. It will be a long while before I can color this, but I can hardly wait. Here is winter: http://christinawald.blogspot.com/2010/04/finish-of-winter.html

Here is a concept sketch for a fairy tale personal project I am working on... More soon as it develops. I am a little obsessed with 18th century costume at the moment...
