Just Joined Twitter

I just joined twitter. I am not sure what it means or what to do with it, but it is what it is. Any ideas of cool people to follow and how to use it?

I know I am a latecomer to this slice of the social media pie. I am reminded of the saying: "If you tweet and there is no one around to read it, is it still 140 characters?" Or something...
