Workshop Madness!

I am doing a workshop at PLAZA Artist Materials April 19th kicking off our Urban Sketching Topics series: Simplify the Structure: Quick sketching complex scenes with Christina Wald

Sometimes it is overwhelming to figure out where to start when drawing a complex cityscape, building, or interior. The workshop will have tips and demos for sketching on the go.

Cincinnati SCBWI Lecture

From Cash Kat out in 2016!

I am going to be speaking about my experience illustrating for children's books at the Cincinnati SCBWI meeting, 7pm Tuesday, Oct 13th at the Sharonville Library.

It is free and open to the public. I hope to see you there!

From the newsletter:
The next meeting for the Cincinnati SCBWI group is Tuesday, October 13 at the Sharonville Library from 7 pm - 8:45 pm.
Our speaker is Christina Wald, a local children’s book illustrator who specializes in animal and science work. She’s a prolific artist with over 20 years’ experience in the field and has worked with numerous major publishers including Scholastic, Bloomsbury, Hachette, Penguin, and National Geographic, as well as on smaller-scale projects directly with authors.
Christina will talk about how she became a children’s book illustrator and what it’s like to work on a picture book from start to finish, including how she works with writers and publishers.
If you would like to have Christina sign one of her books, please feel free to buy it ahead of time and bring it to the meeting. We’ll leave time at the end for her to sign.

To learn more about Christina and the amazing books she’s illustrated, please visit her website: http://www. christinawald.com/ or her blog: http://christinawald.blogspot.com/

Westwood Library Annex Sketch

Westwood Library Annex
Detail from odd frieze over the door. We could spend days sketching this place.
I have had my eye on this building to sketch for a while(only a mile or so from my house), so Vanessa and I had a beautiful day to check it out.

It is cram packed with sculptural details. We call is the angry baby building due to the prevalence of the unhappy looking cherub faces.

Cherub Exhibit B

I hope this building is still being used. It looked pretty deserted. It could have been closed. There was a Mad Cap Puppet sign in the window, maybe they bought it?

If no one is using it,  I want to live there.
